I have been longing to share with all of you this fantastic family, my precious friends, the Brupbachers. The “new” simple-yet amazing life they are embarking on has strengthened my faith. Sometimes God calls us to do quite simple things—like “Offer prayer for a friend” or “Help your sister change her flat tire.” The Brupbachers, a local family of 7 received the calling through prayer and scripture that God was moving them in a deeper way, one that has convinced them to leave their home and belongings here in Lafayette to pursue life as a full time missionary family. The Brupbacher family is made of Phillip, Lacy, William (8), Annie (7), Miriam (5), Norah (4), and Lily (1). They are calling themselves the “The BruCrew.” They set out to Coopevega, Costa Rica just a few weeks ago for their full time mission life. They will have to attend language school for the first month to help them all learn Spanish and hopefully be ready to start ministering to those they meet soon after they settle in!
How did they get here you may be wondering? Philip explains, “About a year ago some dear friends of ours invited us to attend a short term mission trip in General Cepeda, Mexico through Family Missions Company. This was something that we have longed to do as a family but basically had always written it off for several reasons… But, the power of an invitation by some dear friends of ours proved to be just what we needed—an invitation from God to change our lives.” Once they went through the discernment process and began training this past September, they have studied scripture and taken classes to learn about what a life in missions would be like. Lacy shared, “We’ve also had very limited access to phones and internet – only once a week – which has really helped us dive in and focus on our mission – and has given us more free time to pray and read than I ever imagined. It’s really been great spending so much time together as a family. To look out the window the other day and see our eight-year-old son reading the Bible with his friend – of his own accord – warmed my heart to the core – to see them embracing this time in training and excited about our move next month.”
