Once when at a worship night in college, I remember someone getting up and sharing an image that came to him while praying. He saw an image of someone standing there with their chains broken, but they were too afraid to let them go and walk away. He felt that God was telling this person that it was time to walk away and live in the freedom that He had given them.
I share this story as I consider how many of us have been in this situation! I can think of a situation in my own life where God broke my chains. I received the GIFT of freedom! However, I was too afraid to let go. I kept allowing it continue to define who I am. It was not until recently that Jesus revealed to me that it was time to let go of my broken chains and walk into His light. Yes, it was scary but by doing so I have found a freedom that nothing on this earth can provide.
Particularly in this Easter season, where Jesus breaks the chain of sin and death, the Lord wants to flood us with the grace to live as He created us to be. He longs to define us! We have freedom in HIM! No longer do our chains define us, because we are God’s beloved and nothing can ever take that away.
What chains has Jesus broken for you in your life? Are you still dragging those chains beside you? Answer His call, walk away and live in His freedom!
“For freedom, Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1
