Need a powerful weapon? Grab your rosary. The whole month of October is dedicated to the rosary with the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary being celebrated on October 7th. The feast was instituted by Pope Pius V in thanksgiving for the great naval victory over the Turks at the Battle of Lepanto on this day in 1570, a favor due to the recitation of the rosary. This victory saved Europe from being overrun by the forces of Islam.
There are so many things we need to pray for—our upcoming elections, for an end to terrorism, and for an end to abortion, to name a few. During this month, let’s try to pray it daily with our families and if
you are already praying it, let us meditate on the mysteries a little bit better. If you want your children to get excited about praying the rosary, let them make this candy corn and pumpkin rosary (see picture) and eat a candy after each prayer….well
maybe just on the feast day. Check out all the interesting ways to make edible rosaries on Pinterest or here at Catholic Icing. You could also hang a rosary on your fall wreath-a nice reminder to visitors too.
There are so many other great feast days this month:
October 1- St. Therese of Liseaux—practice doing little things with a lot of love.
October 2- Respect Life Sunday- Donate to a pro-life cause and spiritually adopt a baby. Go to spiritualadoption.org for the prayer.
October 4- Francis of Assisi- Some parishes have the blessing of animals this day. Give to the poor.
October 22-St. John Paul II- Listen to a CD on Theology of the Body.-Lighthouse Media has a good one called Men and Women are from Eden.
