Lent… are you saying “adios” to chocolate, wine, or some other sweet vice? ‘Tis the season for sacrifice.
For me it’s gonna be all about Ephesians 4:29.
“Don’t use foul language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”
Yep, it’s amazing what the sting of anger or irritation can do to my intention. My intent to be kind, uplifting, and encouraging. This lent I am facing it head on…. I even got the kids on board …. yikes, I am gonna regret those “Mom, remember 4-2-9.” My tween (I can’t believe I am using that term) and I were chatting this afternoon. She was sharing with me a song from the group Building 429 which lead me to share with her about my Lenten plan. I told her how our high school ministry team would call out “4-2-9” if someone spoke in a negative or unkind way. I guess this was the Lord’s way of adding some accountability for me. Wish me luck…. or better yet, say a few prayers!
I also wanted to point out that I have added a few reading suggestions (thank you Aricca!) which you might consider for group or individual reading in this season of refinement.
I pray that you will take advantage of this Lent to address at least one area which is keeping you from being your best self. It could be something small like adding an extra 5 minutes of quiet prayer time each day or something more significant like a commitment to attempt reconciliation with a friend or family member. Whatever it is, be assured that the gals will be lifting you up in prayer and will be here to encourage in you in your journey to be all that He has called you to be!
